Kevin Parker is an Australian multi-instrumentalist and the vocalist of this band. He conceived the band when he was studying astronomy as he was fascinated by the process of creating his own songs.

He takes the intricacies of the psychedelic rock genre and combines it with modern day pop music melodies. Parker's music is heavily influenced by late 1960s and early 1970s psychedelic rock, which is achieved through various production methods. Some favoured and often-used effects by Parker include phasing, delay, reverb and fuzz.

Album covers:

‘Feels like we only go backwards'

'Eventually'

'Elephant'

'Innerspeaker'

'Currents'

He bases his covers on his love for astronomy and on creating the psychedelic effect of his music visually; for example, Currents' cover symbolises a planet and the universe. Strong colours and patterns are used in all of them, conveying the psychedelic-ness.

His music videos consist on generally indie/alternative styled, skinny girls. They revolve on sexuality (lots of skin is shown at times) and around love. For example in the video 'The less I know the better', the story is about a young pretty girl in gym class that 'hooks up' with a guy. There are lots of vibrant colours used for example in the girl's clothing. Then there are shots of different things going on, perhaps inducing the effect that the psychedelic music comes from the effect of drugs as when you are on drugs you supposedly don't know what is going on around you.

Medium shot (first shot shown)

Medium-long shot showing the girl

Close-up shot showing how she is from close and showing how pretty she is

Medium-long shot starting to introduce the colours and sexuality (by the skin and her position)

Long-shot showing the female body covered in vibrant colours in psychedelic shapes

Long-shot showing an even more sexualised image and more variety of colours and patters.

Then there is also 'The Moment' video by Tame Impala. It is based on a beach full of girls watching guys surf and skate. Basically all the shots are filtered with a pink filter and edited in strong colours to give a psychedelic and vintage look. This video also strongly sexualises women as all the shots show a lot of skin and for example closeup of their breasts or bottom.

Long shot swiping the girls looking at the guy skating

Extreme long shot of a surfer

Medium shot showing two skinny, pretty girls with vibrants colours and patterns being them inducing the psychedelic effect.
